CARACAS Nike KD 9 Australia , July 27 (Xinhua) -- The Venezuelan government warned political opponents of legal consequences if they try to prevent others from voting in Sunday's elections for a new constituent assembly.


Obstructing the right to vote carries jail terms of five to 10 years, Minister of Justice and the Interior Nestor Reverol told reporters at a press conference Thursday.


Elections for 545 members of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) will take place on Sunday amid heightened tension between supporters of the ruling socialist party and the conservative opposition, which has stepped up pressure in an attempt to derail the vote.
