NAIROBI Zack Smith Senators Jersey , Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's government will send a delegation to Monte Carlo, Monaco to present the country's bid for the 2017 World Youth Championships.
Kenya was able to meet the submission deadline of Sept. 25, which marked the second stage of the bidding process for the world event.
The East African nation was to face a stiff challenge from the Western countries with U.S. and Argentina also throwing in their hearts bidding for the hosting rights.
However, reports from Monaco indicate that Nairobi will be the only country bidding and it is the reason Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario is concerned with the wrangles in the Athletics Kenya (AK), the federation responsible for athletics in the country.
"We have a good bid and we will be heading to Monaco for the presentation next week. But we need to work together and have harmony," Wario said in Nairobi on Friday.
Other events that will be decided include the World Championships 2019 (Barcelona Tom Pyatt Senators Jersey , Spain, Doha, Qatar, Eugene, USA) and Continental Cup 2018 (Bydgoszcz, Poland Bobby Ryan Senators Jersey , Ostrava, Czech).
The IAAF will decide next week at its council meeting on Nov. 18 also about two other events planned for 2017.
The World Cross Country Championships candidates are Kampala, Uganda and Manama, Bahrain. For the World Youth Championships, the only candidate is Kenya.
Another proposal on the table is to rename the top walking event into IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships (instead of World Cup). This event is already allocated to Cheboksary, Russia for next two editions in 2016 and 2018.
IAAF President Lamine Diack has written to the country's affiliate demanding the submission of the Event Organization Agreement (EOA) as well as the financial guarantees from the government.
Diack wrote in a letter confirming the receipt of Kenya's bid addressed to the Bid Committee Patron Margaret Kenyatta Kyle Turris Senators Jersey , the wife of the country's President Uhuru Kenyatta, said the country must meet all the requirements.
"The IAAF has confirmed receipt of the application form for Kenya for the IAAF World Youth Championships 2017. Kenya was able to meet the submission deadline of Sept. 25 which marked the second stage of the bidding process for the world event," AK said in a statement.
"Kenya did not however, meet the deadline for the submission of the Event Organization Agreement
