The Broncos must not be fools this AprilThough numerous Mock drafts have the Broncos selecting Drew Lock or even Daniel Jones at #10 (Jones would be an insanely ridiculously stupidly bad pick) there is no way John Elway is not convinced that Flacco is “plan A” and that at least for now, “there is no plan B”. He has learned his lesson and will select BPA....kinda. Drafting is a tough process and trying to predict a draft is even more so but there are some things that from experience we now know are a no-no for the big weekend in April. In honor of the day (April Fools Day), we will take a look at what we believe would be the most foolish decisions that could be made this April by the Denver football team. #1 Potential April Foolishness 2019 - picking for unusual draft circumstancesElway and staff are sitting around a table watching NFL T.V intently, waiting for their turn at the #10 position. Unbelievably, the most explosive talent and hyped player in this draft, Kyler Murray, wasn’t picked by the Cardinals at #1 or by any other team in the top-ten. The room goes nuts. “Can you believe he fell?? We were sure he was going #1. Lock was picked instead and so were Oliver and White. Our favorites are off the board and Murray is there for the taking. We have to pick him, right? Our guys are gone anyway.”“Now we have Murray who doesn’t fit our scheme, can’t play under center, only just decided he even wanted to play football and has serious character concerns. But, at least he’s ‘physically gifted’.”Please...no.#2 Potential April Foolishness 2019 - pick a guy because of a monster combineGuys like D.K Metcalf and Montez Sweat are darlings of the stop-watch. They look like beasts, run like gazelles and would be perfect for a Nike underwear commercial. It seems, however, that teams look at the combine as being a small benefit only in adding pure numbers to real game film and interviews which they study of each player. Some in the Denver Media (we won’t name names) want Metcalf simply because he looks like a video game cheat. If you look at his actual history in college though, you will see a guy who has generally underperformed and was often times not even the top receiver on his own team. No thanks.#3 Potential April Foolishness 2019 - Pick someone only for a position of needDrew Lock/Daniel Jones anybody? T.J Hockenson at Tight End and even Devin White at Inside Linebacker could also be guys who fit this mold. Both guys are talented and would actually likely be a boost for the Broncos but if there is someone like Oliver still available and you don’t pick him simply because he doesn’t fit as big of a need, that would be a big mistake. In other words, if you look at #1 and #3, it becomes clear that the best solution is to draft the best player available for a position of need. So, don’t go and get Murray just because he fell in the draft but also don’t let a BPA slip past just because there’s someone who fits a larger need. No problem. Also, don’t draft anyone with character issues (Jeffery Simmons) and try to find people who are truly passionate about the game of football. If Elway falls into any of these foolish traps I just might join the growing group of people who believe that Emmanuel Sanders Jersey , without Peyton Manning, #7 has been a disaster as General Manager.Elway, don’t fail me now!MHR Radio is now on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, Acast, Stitcher,TuneIn and anywhere else you get your podcasts. The veteran journeyman is happy to do whatever he can to bring some wins to Denver." Denver Broncos PodcastsDekoda Watson feels back at home in DenverNew,22commentsThe veteran journeyman is happy to do whatever he can to bring some wins to Denver.MDTDekoda Watson loves being back in Denver.Joining 1st & 10 @ 10 this morning, Watson told the crew he had been out with his wife in Napa Valley for their anniversary when he got the call from John Lynch. He saw his GM’s phone number and thought, “oh boy, this can’t be good.” So he hung up. Lynch called back, and Watson hung up again. Finally Lynch texted and Watson called back to find out he was going to be traded. Once again, Watson’s first reaction was that it wasn’t going to end well for him. Then Lynch told him they had traded him back to Denver, a team he played with for one season in 2016.“And when he said ‘Denver,’ I said, ‘Well how about that,’” Watson said laughing. “I’m just glad to be back. It was perfect. I love the Broncos.”Listen to "5-08-19 Dekoda Watson on 1st & 10" on Spreaker.Heading into his 10th year in the league, the linebacker mainly played special teams for the Broncos as well as some outside linebacker where he had one forced fumble, one sack and six tackles.Perhaps not much to brag about, but the veteran journeyman isn’t trying to get stats. He’s trying to do anything to keep playing another year in the NFL.“I’m willing to do anything - defense, special teams, whatever it is Phillip Lindsay Jersey , whatever needs to be done, just wanting to put my best foot forward and just get some wins and be able to contribute,” he said. “I just want to do as much as I can to play as long as I can in the league.”And he loves getting to do that in the Mile High City.“I love this city,” Watson said, adding that as a “country boy,” he loves seeing the mountains every day. “I love the fans. This is one of the most exciting stadiums I’ve been in.”And although the team is quite a bit different than when he was here three years ago, Watson is happy to see many of his old teammates in the locker room - but also the familiar faces around Dove Valley. “Of course I love the camaraderie here, not only with my teammates but with everybody in the organization - the cooks, the janitors, security guards, training staff, equipment staff. Everybody,” he said. “I felt at home, felt respected...I’m happy to come back.”John Elway’s trade for Watson in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick during the draft weekend was perplexing to many, but Watson’s veteran leadership and special teams prowess is a big hint why the Broncos got him back.“We’re excited about having Dekoda back,” Elway said after the draft, noting that Watson led in special teams tackles and could help in the outside pass rush. “We just thought it was an opportunity to bring him back so we took advantage of that.” Watson had also become a team captain mid-season during his time on the team, so his potential to help a young linebacker corps as well as special teamers is a no-brainer.Watson is just fine with that role. “It’s about what can I do now...showing young guys that a lot of your opportunities can come from being a great special teams player,” Watson added. “And that can carry you for a long, long time.”Although Watson is just getting to know Vic Fangio and Ed Donatell, he likes what he sees and the emphasis on fundamentals and details. Watson also likes getting to work under special teams coordinator Tom McMahon who coached some of his friends at the Colts.“They thought very highly him,” Watson said. “He’s very very passionate about the game and that’s something I just love.”
