BEIJING Carlos Valderrama Camiseta , April 26 (Xinhua) -- It has become a common scene during subway rides in China's capital Beijing that majority passengers set their eyes on cell phone screens while text messaging, sharing moments, watching videos or playing online games, in silence.


They are just using WeChat, the most popular social media app in the Asian country. The prevailing WeChat has also developed over recent years to become a payment means for online or offline shopping James Rodriguez Camiseta , renting public bicycles, or taking taxis.


In fact, it can do payment for almost anything that used to be done in cash or by credit cards.


""WeChat has become a way of life for the Chinese. We started to use it for text messaging and life moment sharing. Now we pay via WeChat and we rarely use cash even at small shops,"" said Jia Hechen, a 20-year-old medical college school graduate.

The young man is just among hundreds of millions of WeChat users in China that has a 1.3 billion population. WeChat is a social media free application developed by China's Tencent company and launched in 2011. Data last year showed it attracted some 889 million monthly active users.


On a busy street in Beijing's Chaoyang district, Liu Qiannan, a college student in her early 20s, unlocked one of the dozens of parked public bikes after paying a rental just by scanning the QR Code built in the bike with her cell phone Wechat scanner.


""WeChat is becoming more and more popular. We use it as a way of payment and it saves a lot of time. ""I think WeChat is pretty necessary for a foreigner living in China. Whenever you meet any person anywhere in China the first question is 'Oh, do you have WeChat?' ""We use WeChat at work as well as our everyday life. It's very convenient for communicating with business partners, colleagues and bosses, besides family and friends,"" she said at Beijing's airport while waiting for her flight to eastern Anhui Province.

Moreover, WeChat has become an alternative source in China of information and news for young people, according to experts.

WASHINGTON Stefan Medina Camiseta , May 4 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Republican-controlled House of Representatives on Thursday pushed through a new version of American Health Care Act aimed to repeal and replace Obamacare, by a vote of 217-213.


The vote was thought in high stakes but a major breakthrough for U.S. President Donald Trump who failed to get any major legislation passed by Congress during his first 100 days in the White House.


House Republican leaders have scrambled for enough support for the vote after having a series of changes added since an earlier version was pulled from a House floor voting at the last minute in March.


""We cannot wait for Obamacare to collapse. We have to transform this, and that's what we'll do today,"" said House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy before the voting.


Under the latest version of the House bill, all 50 U.S. states are allowed to apply for waivers from key provisions of Obamacare Oscar Murillo Camiseta , the signature legislation by former President Barack Obama.


The bill will also provide extra 8 billion dollars over five years for high-risk pools aimed at helping states and insurers deal with high-cost patients. Including the additional money, a total of 138 billion dollars will be funded for the high-risk pools over the next decade.


The bill is now sent to the Senate where it is expected to face significant hurdles.
