ZAGREB Miranda Jersey , Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Croatia coach Niko Kovac has unveiled the footballers for the two games in September, starting to rebuild the national team after the 2014 World Cup.


On Sept. 4, Croatia will host Cyprus in Pula, the largest town of Istria province, in a friendly match. Five days later in Zagreb, Croatia will host Malta at the start of its qualifying campaign for European Championships in 2016.


On Kovac's list of 25 players for those two games Borja Valero Jersey , there are 14 players wearing Croatian shirt at the World Cup in Brazil, where Croatia didn't survive the group stage which was considered as a failure, both by the media and the players.


Wolfsburg striker Ivan Perisic is injured and RB Leipzig forward Ante Rebic is serving the one game suspension for the red card that he was shown in the last World Cup game against Mexico.


Three experienced players from the World Cup squad ended their international careers: 35-year old goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa who played 114 times for Croatia, 31-year old Flamengo striker Eduardo da Silva and 30-year old defensive midfielder Ognjen Vukojevic who recently moved from Dyinamo Kiev to Dinamo Zagreb.


Pletikosa felt that his time to say farewell to the national team has come. Eduardo and Vukojevic, both, were disappointed with their role at the World Cup. Brazilian born Eduardo hoped to play in the World Cup opener against host nation but got only 21 minutes of play as a substitute in a match against Cameroon.


Vukojevic didn't get a chance to play because Kovac opted for stars Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic as a defensive pair in Croatia's midfield.

Of those 25 players from the list seven come from the best three Croatian clubs: Dinamo Zagreb (three players), Rijeka (three players) and Hajduk (one player). Most notable invitations were sent to two players that sit on top of the best scorers list: 23-year old Rijeka striker Andrej Kramaric was on target 9 times in five Croatian League matches and 24-year old Duje Cop Matteo Politano Jersey , who was the best scorer in the last season, scored six times in five appearances.


Cop was on Kovac's preliminary list for the World Cup but was left out of the 23-men squad and Kramaric, who was a member of Croatian U-21, U-18 and U-16 teams, will make his debut for the A team.


"They both already played fantastic football in the last season and they just carried that form to this season. They will make a competition among forwards stronger and they can help us on the field," Kovac explained his choice.


With the disappointing result at the World Cup still fresh in the memory of Croatian fans Joao Mario Jersey , Kovac knows that his team has to be among those that will fight for the European Champion title in 2016. To earn direct qualification Croatia has to be one of the best two teams in the group with Italy, Bulgaria, Norway, Azerbaijan and Malta or at least take the third spot that would lead into the play-off match.


"We've gained a lot of experience playing at the World Cup. There were some good memories, there were some not so good, but the most important thing is that we've learned something. I'm very optimistic about our chances to qualify for the European Championship even though we have some though opposition in our group Radja Nainggolan Jersey ," Kovac said.


His popularity among Croatian football fans was on the high before the World Cup. When the team returned from Brazil polls showed that a lot of people lost their trust in Kovac's capability to lead the national team. Now, Kovac plan to gain that trust again and to show that Croatian national team has a bright future with him as a leader and with new stars on the horizon.
