SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, June 5 (Xinhua) -- Four militants were killed in a fierce gunfight with Indian troops Monday in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

"Early today at around 4:00 a.m. local time militants tried to enter a paramilitary camp of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Sumbal, Bandipora with the aim to carry out a (fidayeen) suicide attack. However, the attack was foiled just outside the camp, which resulted in killing of four militants," a senior police official posted in Bandipora told Xinhua.


According to police, immediately after the militants attempted to enter the paramilitary camp, reinforcements of Indian police and army were rushed to the spot to take on militants.

Police officials said they have not suffered any causality or damage in the attack.


"All the policemen and paramilitary troopers are safe and our side has not suffered any damage during the attack," the police official said.

Region's Police Chief Shesh Paul Vaid said police recovered four assault rifles and some ammunition from the slain militants.
